Dr. Lutz Mükke (EIJK) interviewed the Syrian journalists Tarek Khello and Ebraheem Alisa Algasam, who talked about threats, censorship and propaganda by the fighting groups as part of the journalist's daily life in Syria.
Khello would encourage German media to be more critical about sources, especially from social media activists in Syria. The media coverage on refugees in Germany is not balanced, he said. The positive stories of “Refugees Welcome” do not adequately reflect refugees’ daily life problems.
Due to their language skills and networks, journalists like Khello and Algasam could support German media e.g. as stringer.
The hangout of the regional group of investigative journalist’s network (Netzwerk Recherche Leipzig) is organized by the European Institute for Journalism and Communication Research. Interested journalists in Leipzig and its surroundings meet regularly to share experiences and discuss new trends and topics.
At the European Media Freedom Conference (ECPMF) in October 2015, one of the international journalists, Tarek Khello, discussed differences and problems of the media coverage on refugees with journalists from Serbia, Hungary, Germany and the UK.
